About Shana

Shana Brautigam is the potter and teaching artist working at Rooted in Clay in Rindge, NH since 2003.

Her interest in clay began when she was nine years old, and learned how to use the pottery wheel at a local potter’s studio in Durham, NH. She continued to take pottery classes on and off for several years. By the time she was in high school, she was in the school’s studio as often as possible. Shana found a local mentor, Tim Christensen, to teach her about the many different facets of running a pottery studio and business. She worked hard at developing her unique hand-built style, and exploring different avenues for selling her work. In 2003, Shana opened Rooted in Clay and has been welcoming visitors and offering pottery classes ever since. She is a member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen and sells at many galleries and craft fairs throughout the state.

Shana spends most of her time making pottery, teaching classes, and doing all the different tasks required to manage a studio and run a business. She also enjoys spending time outside hiking, growing food, and raising goats. Shana builds wood-fired ovens and has a couple at her house and studio. She often fires them up to bake sourdough breads and pizzas. In the off season, Shana spends her down time cross-country skiing, planning the year ahead, and coming up with new ideas.
